How to Get Cataclysm PvP Gear in World of Warcraft

Major changes have come to World of Warcraft since the Cataclysm expansion was released, leaving old and new players alike running in circles around Azeroth searching for familiar vendors. The system for gaining PvP gear in WoW has changed quite a bit, but the good news is that it may now be easier than ever for new players to catch up and level the playing field in the realm of PvP if they play smart when earning their gear

1.Start queuing for random battlegrounds as soon as you reach level 85. Competing in random battlegrounds awards the player a bonus to honor points whether you win or lose, and the quicker you earn honor, the sooner you can start getting better gear and becoming more competitive.

2.Play shrewdly in early battleground matches. You will most likely be competing with players that have already replaced some or all of their gear at level 85, leaving you at somewhat of a handicap. If your class is ranged, try to stay at the back of packs, run with clusters of your teammates, or use objects in the field to hide behind. Melee classes should be aware of where their team is, and perhaps even try to solicit the favor of a healer by fighting nearby and keeping other players off of him. Staying alive longer means more damage, which translates to more honor points.

3.Locate the Honor Quartermaster in your capital city. For the Horde, this NPC is a male troll named Blood Guard Zar’shi, found in a large building on the west cliff overlooking the Valley of Strength in Orgrimmar. For the Alliance, look for Knight-Lieutenant T’Maire Sydes, a female human in the honor hall at the very south corner of Old Town in Stormwind.

4.Browse through the gear the Honor Quartermaster sells and compare it to your own. There are two complete sets of armor available (which differ in stats and should be selected based on your spec), along with several trinkets, necklaces and rings.

5.Determine which piece of gear would be the largest overall improvement in your stats. If you have enough honor points already, go ahead and make your first purchase. Otherwise, continue queuing for random battlegrounds until you can afford the piece you want. Continue to do random battlegrounds for honor until you have at least 1,000 resilience.

6.Find a partner to start a 2v2 arena team with. Neither of you needs any arena experience, but if your rating will become important to you, finding someone of a class that compliments yours may be a wise choice.

Tips & Warnings

Gemming and enchanting your gear may seem like a waste if you just plan to replace it, but all new PvP purchases should at least be socketed with green gems and inexpensive enchants when possible. Every little bit of extra DPS or health means that you can earn honor or conquest points that much faster.

What Talents Should The Players Have on PvP for Shaman in 4.0.3.

A few more days left, and we’re only on shaman. This can’t be good. Let’s get right to it, then. Shaman are incredibly fun to play, especially with the changes that came with 4.0.1. The improvements on the totem interface in the past have made it much easier for shaman to manage their totems. The best shaman utilize their totems in the heat of battle, and one interesting skill to master is knowing not just which totem to put down for a situation but which sets of totems, now that shaman can drop it down all at once. It’s a convenience that changes a few things. There is also higher survivability, better mobility, and clearly defined playstyles for all three specs.

Elemental shaman PvP—It helps to have a PvP-friendly specialization from the get-go, and elemental gets the wonderful Thunderstorm, which was exciting when it debuted but becomes even better now that shaman can get it free at level 10. Add the Glyph of Thunder (major) and you’re all set to blow enemies off cliffs with more frequency. Elemental shaman are extremely potent AoE combatants, which means a whole lot of damage going in the battlegrounds. The overall nerf to stuns across all classes has neutered one of the shaman class’ biggest weaknesses, which only means good things for you.

Enhancement shaman PvP— There’s much to be desired for enhancement shaman on the DPS end, but PvP is an entirely different ballgame. There are a lot of PvP talents in the enhancement tree that affords enhancement shaman the best mobility among all shaman. Enhancement plays best when you keep controlling the distance at which you engage. More than any other melee class, enhancement has excellent options for ranged combat, which should be used to your advantage as often as possible. Your resilience against kiting means you can keep beating down on an opponent but at the same time have ready options to create distance if you need it.

Restoration shaman PvP— Restoration gets—Earth Shield as a basic specialization, one of the best defensive PvP spells in the game. Essentially, it’s a scaling reactive heal that opponents need to match in DPS simply in order to get something through. Restoration shaman excel in the battlegrounds because of access to AoE heals and a lot of utility. As with all healers in today’s world, offensive spellcasting has been thrown into the mix, and the best battleground healers will take turns casting heals interspersed with offensive spells. There aren’t a lot of PvP-centric talents in the tree, but let’s take a look at some that should help you out on the field.

A Response To The "Do You Like PvP?" Breakfast Topic

WoW Insider covers the world of player vs. player action in Blood Sport for fans of Battleground, world PvP and Arena play. Steering you to victory is Olivia Grace, who spends most of her time in Azeroth making with the stabby and turning people into frogs.

A little while ago, I wrote a Breakfast Topic asking if you like PvP. I was really pleased to see lots of people commenting, and we got some really interesting responses telling us why some folks don’t like PvP. A lot of it was predictable, things I had anticipated as someone who’s gone from really disliking PvP to absolutely loving it, making it the main thing I do in WoW, and eventually writing about it for WoW Insider. I know you may not believe me, but my early PvP experiences were basically just going into Battlegrounds and having no comprehension of what was going on, and declining duels.

Now, I’m not trying to persuade you to become a PvP nut like me. I just want those who don’t like PvP to take a moment to read this and maybe see if I can persuade you to try a little PvP, armed with some more knowledge. That is, after all, my main aim.

A good number of complaints relate to PvP gear, how you have to grind wow gold for it, and how you need it in order to be successful. There are a few simple steps to deal with this, though!

Buy the crafted set from the Auction House, or have it crafted, or craft it yourself. There is a set for everyone, and a jewelcrafter can make you jewelery to go with it. The mats aren’t hard to find or expensive to buy, and anyone who’s leveling the profession that makes the gear will be making it. Ask in trade; you may get it for the mats. This will net you a cool 3,250 resilience.

If you’re a dedicated raider or PvE player, you’re going to have spare valor or justice points lying around by now. Justice points convert to honor at a rate of 375:250 and valor to conquest at 250:250.

Your first priority with these converted points is to get the pieces you couldn’t get from the crafted set, if any. Trinkets are usually what I recommend. Unless you’re a human, the first one needs to be a freedom trinket that gets your character out of all effects that cause you to lose control.

If you have good quality PvE weapons and wands/relics, keep them. They’re just as powerful as PvP choices, if not more. Replace other PvE gear instead.

Your next priority is to get gloves for 1,650 conquest or honor. They usually have a stand-alone buff to a key ability and are part of the set bonus, the second piece of which will give you a +400 resilience buff. Shoulders (1,650 conquest/honor) are the last priority piece.

So once you have your main-hand and off-hand or two-handed weapon and the two-set bonus, that’s 4,000 resilience. Sorted, as we say here in Essex (UK). Once you’re a bit resilient, you’ll die more slowly and have time to work out what’s going on!

But you can go into Battlegrounds with a lot less than that. My new mage was recently in Battlegrounds with 2,900 resilience and a 312 item level staff. I tickled my enemies to death. They died laughing. Still fun, but you have to know a few things about how to play.

Amazing Arena Addons Assault Azerothian Amateurs

Is there anyone pay attention to the Arena addons? My default pack for Arena is a bit different to the above list, mostly because some of the Arena ones would be way too spammy in a Battleground.

My default Arena list is as follows:

Gladius shows Arena enemy nameplates, including CC timers and trinket timers, and can be modified to show CC diminishing returns and other info.
Lose Control works as previously mentioned

InterruptBar is a bar that tracks your enemy’s use of interrupts. Vital for fake-casting. Not really useful in Battlegrounds unless you’re in specific situations, but I still leave it on.

SpellAlerter is a customizable visual alert for your choice of spells and events. It’s far too spammy for Battlegrounds.

SaySapped is handy for PuG Arenas or ones without Skype.

I will sometimes use Healers Have to Die in Arena, particularly in 5v5, but I set the healing tolerance far higher or it sets DKs as healers. In 2v2 or 3v3, it should be pretty obvious who the healer is, if any, and in 5v5 too, but we all have our moments!

Now, the Arena addon review section centers around one particular addon that many people contacted me to recommend. That addon is GladiatorlosSA. What does it do? It’s an audio alerter that, rather like SpellAlerter, tells you when certain abilities are used — by talking to you. It has a choice of voice options, I stuck with Default American Lady. She seemed nice.

One major downside for the new GladiatorlosSA user is that it comes preloaded with pretty much every spell in the game active. If, as I did, you head into an Arena with that number of spells loaded, you basically get an audio barrage of information that is almost completely useless.

Another problem I encountered is that the lady speaks rather quietly. It took me a while to figure out that her volume is independent of WoW’s various volume sliders, so the solution to making her audible was to turn everything down within WoW, then turn the general WoW volume up in my Windows sound settings.

But despite these early setbacks, I persevered. I edited the spells so it reported only what Spell Alerter reported to me, fixed up the sound so I could hear the lady, and carried on doing Arena. I did several evenings of matches with it on characters I’m very comfortable with, as well as ones that are newer to me, in 2v2, 3v3 and 5v5. I messed around with various settings, including who it reports on.

While the configurability is admirable, the intention is great, and others may well like it, this addon is not for me. I find the audio reports distracting rather than helpful, and I find it detracts from my communication with my teammates. I almost always use Skype, and like Cottage discusses on his recent video, I consider good communication to be key to great Arena. With the addons I list above, I already know what’s happening to me and to my team, to an extent, and my teammates know what’s happening to them. If there’s something important happening, they’ll tell me. I remain unconvinced of the value of GladiatorlosSA, but this is very personal to me. Give it a try — you might love it, but I’m afraid I don’t!

The enigmatic pandaren are one of the most elusive races of Azeroth. Pandaren come from the Pandaren Empire of Pandaria. They are humanoid pandas with a great love of nature and strong ales.

Hailing from their own secret empire, the pandaren are a race of humanoids resembling pandas. This appearance leads some to underestimate these noble creatures, thinking them harmless and “cute”. They may be cute, but they are not harmless. Pandaren have a long tradition of mystic warfare and are exceedingly strong and agile. The traditional pandaren fighting style focuses upon mobility, speed and precision, as well as stunning acrobatic tricks. Many pandaren are skilled at fighting bare-handed.

Only the pandaren know the intricacies of their society, but alcohol is a central feature. All pandaren are connoisseurs of ale and stronger drink, leading to a unique kinship with Ironforge dwarves. A caste of wandering pandaren warriors called Brewmasters is highly respected in their culture. A few Brewmasters have been spotted in Kalimdor, searching for new beverages to sample and ingredients to add to their own brews. Pandaren are affable and noble, trained in battle but always seeking peace. Pandaren philosophy centers on a harmony of opposites — male and female, calm and chaos, existence and non-existence. Pandaren feel a strong link to the natural world and seek to maintain a peace between all races and nature. Very few pandaren ever leave their hidden island homeland of Pandaria, although there is a place called Pandaren Settlement within the Stonetalon Mountains, but those that do have proved themselves to be strong warriors specializing in Drunken Brawling with great command of the elements.

The most famous of these warriors is Chen Stormstout, who assisted the half-orc Rexxar and the Horde after the fall of the Burning Legion. No one knows what became of him afterwards, but several of his empty kegs have been found scattered around the Barrens.

Though Chen assisted Rexxar, they do not seem to be specifically affiliated with either the Horde or the Alliance.

Even unaligned races such as pandaren live defined by the conflicts among and around them. In a world constantly on the brink of war, the need for peacemakers is as great as the need for warriors.

Many of Azeroth’s denizens do not owe fealty to the Alliance or Horde. Some races, such as pandaren, are independent.
